Discover a whole new world of artistic possibility when you combine collage and paint with monoprinting techniques. First we will layer colors, patterns, and textures on the GelliArts gel plate to create gorgeously printed collage papers. Then we combine them with painting, drawing, and layering to build images directly on a paper substrate. We will be working in series, which allows fluidity of process, focus, and momentum in your work. Let the boundaries between painting, monoprinting, and collage disappear as you explore this exciting means of creative expression.

This class is open to those with some experience with gel plate printing. I will not be demonstrating the basics; you can find loads of tutorials online at the GelliArts website and blog.

Supplies You Need to Bring to Class in addition to materials provided by instructor:
• 8”x10” GelliArts gel plate: www.gelliarts.com
• 22”x30” printmaking paper such as Stonehenge*, cut into 8”x8” or 8”x10” (whichever you are comfortable with) pieces. You should have at least 24 of these small pieces.
• Found papers such a book pages, gift wrap, or Japanese papers (light-weight, to be printed on and used for collage)
• Brayer, soft rubber, 2” – 3”
• Acrylic paints – a variety of craft paints and Golden (or other artist grade**) Fluid Acrylics. If you have Golden OPEN acrylics, bring them.
• 1 tube of Titanium White heavy body acrylic paint, any decent brand.
• Scissors
• Acrylic matte medium (I prefer Utrecht brand) or soft gel (NOT heavy gel)
• Acrylic glazing liquid/medium
• Paint brushes in a few sizes and shapes
• Any textured surfaces you can find – corrugated paper, sequin waste, texture plates, rug liner, textured placemats, soffit vent material, plastic fencing, etc.
• Disposable palette (pad of paper style)
• Drawing tools such as pens, graphite pencils, markers, watercolor crayons. I recommend Posca Pens (paint markers).
• Plastic container for water (think quart yoghurt container)
• Big fat roll of paper towels

Materials fee $5  paid directly to instructor at beginning of class includes:
Loads of 9”x12” cheap drawing paper
Graphite to share
Chocolate (good chocolate)
Pearls of wisdom and pearls of stupidity
