Love mixing fabric patterns and colors? ME, TOO! Let’s get funky creating whimsical storybook characters with fabric collage and some wild machine stitching. I’ll show you how to create your own fun doll pattern and share lots of tips and tricks for creating lovable goofiness in these fun art dolls. Please note: these are boudoir dolls – they are TALL! (Two and a half to three and a half feet tall!)
Please note #2: This is a two-day class with lots of sewing on the sewing machine. Sewing machine experience is needed.
Demonstrations will include pattern making, collaging fabrics, free motion stitching on a machine, turning and stuffing tips, doll hands with posable fingers, hair application, and embellishments.
Your humble instructor has been making dolls for 4 decades, and I will be happy to share with you the joys of bringing dolls to life!

Materials fee $15 paid directly to instructor at beginning of class includes:
• Hand out with pattern ideas and sewing tips
• Dritz Quick Turn tools
• Stuffing
• Chop Sticks and skewers
• Pipe cleaners
• Paper for patterns
• Items to share: assorted threads, paints and brushes, doll needles, wire cutters, felting needles

Supplies You Need to Bring to Class in addition to materials provided by instructor:
• Black sewing thread, plus any other colors of choice
• Two pair of scissors – one for fabric, one for paper
• Needles for hand sewing
• Embroidery floss
• Fabrics: Note – Please think about what you might need for each section of the body – legs, arms, head, torso, skirt or pants, FRONT AND BACK. The fun is in the mix of patterns and colors. Audition your fabrics at home by grouping them together to see what looks FABulous to you!
• For the face - muslin, linen, or quilting cotton solids would be great. This fabric does not need to be white – bring the color that you want your character to be.
• For the body – Mix and match cottons or flannels. Upholstery scraps can also be GREAT in small portions of the body! Find these at recycle shops like Scrap in Portland, or ask for discontinued sample books from interior design shops.
• Bits and bobbles: buttons, lace, ribbons, rickrack, beads, broken jewelry – please see photos for ideas

• Hair possibilities: yarn, wool roving, dyed fleece… Your choice

Most of the required supplies for your classes can be pre-ordered from Collage. They will be ready and waiting for you to pick up when you arrive at the retreat. For further info and to place your order, contact:
