I love this meaning of “Poetic - having an imaginative or sensitively emotional style of expression with beauty and sound.” What a wonderful way to spend the day expressing your style with verse, watercolor pencils, acrylics, and gouache. I’ll give you prompts to create short poems that will guide us illustrate and paint. Experiment on different color gesso surfaces to make interesting color arrangements. Watercolor pencils are wonderful to work with and great for journals and traveling. Colors become vibrant and yummy when water is applied to the paper surface. The effect range from smooth to textural with effortless brush strokes. We’ll add some textures, stencils and stamps for a great mixed media effect. Pressing down pure color with pencils leads to endless good vibes. We’ll also combine watercolor pencils and water-soluble pens while learning contour drawing. Now you can figure out what to do with those pencils lying around your worktable!

Materials fee $12 paid directly to instructor at beginning of class includes:

gouache, color gessos, water-soluble pens, acrylics, old text papers, and other tools to use while we work. .

Provided materials to use: Carbon paper, sponges, stamps, stencils, mark-making tools and other tools to use while we work.

Supplies You Need to Bring to Class in addition to materials provided by instructor:
2 or more round watercolor brushes: #8, #10, #12, or #14
9” x 12” ( or larger) 90 weight (or heavier) journal for watercolor or mixed media. I recommend Strathmore Hardbound 500 Series mixed media Art Journal, or Stillman & Birn water media sketchbook-Zeta or Beta series spiral bound
Acrylic matt medium- gel, regular, or liquid
1 medium size acrylic brush
Faber Castell or Micron permanent fine ink pen- black or dark color
Set of Watercolor pencils- 10 or more colors- recommended brands: Faber Castell Albrecht Durer, Prismacolor, Derwent Intense, Caran D’ Arche Supracolor. Try and avoid cheap brands…I don’t want you to be disappointed!
