$ 150

Take plaster beyond it’s typical limitations and combine it with paper in surprisingly durable and textural ways!

We’ll start with a foundation of 300# watercolor paper (in sizes of your choice) and apply DIY texture mediums that you will learn how to make and modify in the workshop. You’ll then learn to add layer upon layer of non-traditional collage as well as paint, and other mark making technique to create pieces rich with visual texture and interest.

We will then finish your beautiful paintings with a luminous finishing layer of encaustic medium which we will then add additional textural and unexpected elements on top of.

Because of the surprisingly quick working time of all the mediums used in this workshop, each student will be able to go home with multiple finished pieces that they can hang as is or frame for even more impact.

All the techniques demonstrated in this workshop can be easily modified to work beautifully in altered book making, assemblage work, installation art, and a variety of other art forms.

Materials Fee $10 Payable to instructor at beginning of class Includes:
an abundant surplus of collage material, tools for executing the techniques taught, extra paint + supplies, all encaustic medium and tools for applying the encaustic medium.

Supplies Needed to Bring for Class:
2-4 sheets of 300# watercolor paper. No specific size is required but I recommend that you have at least a couple of larger sizes (11” x 14” ish) to work on or to break down into smaller paintings for working on in the workshop.
Your favorite basic art tools including:
Your favorite paintbrushes
A small pile of paper ephemera that can include vintage papers, photo copies, magazine pages, handmade collage papers, etc.
A few of your favorite paints including a white and a black (I like heavy bodied Titanium White and Mars Black)
Pencil

Optional items:
Any additional mediums or mark making tools that you love working with such as opaque paint pens (I like Sharpie brand), Stabilo pencils, artist crayons, scratching tools, etc.

Most of the required supplies for your classes can be pre-ordered from Collage. They will be ready and waiting for you to pick up when you arrive at the retreat. For further info and to place your order, contact:
