Overcome indecision, hesitation, fear of wrecking a piece, in this workshop that focuses on continuity and fluidity. The idea of working with ease and confidence all the time may be a myth, but working with a little more ease and a little more confidence is totally achievable.

In this workshop you will learn practices that help you let go of perfectionism, let go of the tendency to self-judge and second-guess, and move forward with a whole new attitude. We’ll begin with small, quick collages, and gradually move on to more complex projects, as you expand and fine tune your visual acuity and expression with colorful and surprising collages.

Materials Fee $5 paid at beginning of class includes:

Collage papers to share
Extra glue sticks

Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

• Collage papers, including the following:*
o Solid colors in a range of values, dark to very light
o Patterns in a variety of scale – teeny tiny, and great big, and everything in between
o Tone-on-tone patterns
o Images (optional) from magazines, photocopies, or other sources, on lightweight paper
o Visual textures, such as gelli plate prints
o Type in various sizes (magazine copy to headlines), from discarded books, newspapers, or magazines, or photocopies
o Any other ephemera you care to use
o Optional bits of physical texture such as corrugated or embossed papers.
• Acrylic matte medium or soft gel
• Uhu glue stick
• Brushes
• Drawing tools such as: markers, paint markers, water soluble crayons, graphite, fine tip felt pens, and pencils.
• Paper to use as a substrate: smooth medium weight paper is required. Bristol is a good choice, 9”x12” or smaller. Smooth printmaking paper cut down to small squares or rectangles (8”x10”, 9”x12”, or 8” square are good). 15 small sheets should suffice. Blick Bristol comes in pads of 15 sheets.

*You don’t need to have a ton of papers in each of these categories but check to see that you have some of each. Most of your papers should be opaque, NOT tissue paper and deli paper. Include translucent papers sparingly if you like, but don’t rely on them completely. Make sure you have some light value neutral colors – off whites, light grays, sand, beige, etc.
