The Elements of Abstract Composition

$ 340

In my own art practice and in teaching, I realize more and more that making art is about seeing. Certainly, there is technique involved, but it is what you do with it that counts. This workshop pares down the techniques to a minimum and gets at the meat of abstract visual language. We will explore elements and fundamental concepts of composition through collage, crayons, markers, and other accessible media. This playful approach offers you a path into art-making that does not require a substantial investment in materials, one that you can engage in at the kitchen table or in your sketchbook while traveling. You can also use it as way to generate studies if you already have a regular art practice.

Materials Fee $5 paid at beginning of class includes:

 Card stock to use as a substrate
 Some collage papers to share
 A few bells and whistles
 Chocolate, if you are good.

Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

 A sketchbook
 A glue stick
 Papers for collage, mostly solid color, such as: colored card stock, solid color origami paper, Color-Aid, large samples of house paint, construction paper, your own hand-painted paper. You may include a few patterns. The papers should be opaque, not tissue or deli paper.
 Fine felt-tip pens such as Pitt Pens
 Paint Markers, such as Posca
 Water soluble crayons such as Caran d’Ache or oil pastels as an alternative
