Corded Collage

$ 95

NOTE: Sewing machine experience required. If you are traveling, we will have 5 machines available to share. Please contact glenny@artandsoulretreat.com if you live locally, and can bring your machine so we can reserve the five for others!

This is an exploration into line, shape and texture through the application of yarns and cords. Varying colors, weights and textures of yarn are couched down by machine in a map of meandering and spiraling forms to create an organic composition reminiscent of banded agate or aerial landscape. The composition can be planned like a mosaic collage or applied in a spontaneous fashion changing colors and textures at whim

Materials fee $25 paid directly to instructor at beginning of class includes:
background fabric panel, stabilizer, sewing thread and a variety of textured yarns and cords.

Supplies You Need to Bring to Class in addition to materials provided by instructor:
• Extra sewing machine needles: a package of Topstitching needles in size #12 or #14.
• Scissors: A pair of fine bladed craft scissors.
• A sewing awl, stiletto or a seam ripper: this will be used as a prodding, guiding tool to help keep the yarn or cord in place while feeding it under the presser foot so any tool that can serve a similar function will be adequate.
• Frixion pen
• A few sheets of copy paper and a pencil and good eraser: this is only needed if you want to play with a planned pre-drawn composition.

Other Incidental Supplies:
• Lighting: additional lighting may be helpful; a portable Ott light would be appropriate.
• Extension cords and plug strips (if bringing additional lighting)
• A Pillow: Many venues have less than comfortable chairs, a pillow may help.

Please be courteous to others by arriving for class with the correct supplies. Contact me at helene.m.knott@gmail.com if you have any questions.
