Scroll Stories

$ 170

Tell your “story” using a variety of materials and mark-making techniques. Then stitch your components onto a long strip of canvas which gets attached to a vintage wooden spool. This delightful scroll will wrap around the spool and secure with ribbon.
Explore free-motion machine and hand-sewing, stitching through papers, stitching onto paint chip samples, and stamping and painting fabrics. Your images might follow a theme to tell a story but they need not be related. They might be a collection of interesting, unrelated, images and patterns stitched together. Think of this as a long, thin collage, wrapped up tightly and then unwound to be seen in a sweeping, panoramic view

Materials Fee $30 paid at beginning of class includes:

canvas background fabric, paint, assorted papers to stitch on, embroidery threads, printed fabrics, a variety of paper ephemera, ribbon, assorted textural fibers, and more. Tools will be provided for your use in class. Everything you need for the project will be included except for the wooden spool.
Vintage Spools will be available for purchase ($10-30) in class or you may bring your own.

Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

-A Vintage Wooden Spool with least 5-6” of clearance between the ends. (Cone-shaped spindles don’t work because the fabric doesn’t wind evenly around these) Spools can be found in antique stores, on Etsy and on Ebay for about $10-$30. (Libby will have several of these for purchase in class. Please arrange with her before class to reserve one)
-an art apron

Optional supplies:
-additional fabric scraps with images or patterns on them which you might like to incorporate
-paper pages with illustrations to stitch onto your canvas
-odd ephemera
