I love experimenting with creating translucency by embedding organic elements between layers of paper ‘skins’. The result is a misty and mysterious collection of sealed treasures.
We will be transforming an accordioned art book using watercolor paper, rice paper, tea bags, tissue and a myriad of translucent products that will form windows of embedded natural elements, utilizing positive and negative space.
Bamboo sticks will weave through hasp openings for a stand-alone art piece. Optionally, we will be inscribing our marks by burning holes through some the papers as we go along.
Materials Fee $ 20.00 paid to instructor at beginning of class includes:
Translucent papers (incl. rice paper, teabags, parchment, tissue and more), precut watercolor substrate and Bristol backing papers, double stick tape, burning implements, bamboo sticks, wire, pliers to borrow, needle and thread, beads, stamps, embossing powder and ink, heat gun, extra pressed organic elements if needed.
Supplies Needed to bring for Class:
Tacky glue, gel medium, soft paint brushes, bone folder, scissors, pencil and eraser, paper towels, assorted pressed and flat organic elements, i.e. leaves, flowers, feathers etc. Only flattened and dried elements can be embedded; small seeds, sticks etc. may be attached atop
