Book of Treasures

$ 180

A white journal page can be intimidating. I find it easier to draw on a page with a little color on it. The pages in this charming journal are painted loosely with watercolors using stencils. The colors and textures on the pages inspire ideas to sketch. The finished journal is 20 pages and is 4” x 6”; which is a comfortable size to carry around. The cover is an old watercolor painting that was not as successful as you may have wished. This hand-made book is made without a binding. The pages are stuck together with double sided tape. This split class will allow the students to create the journal one evening and sketch in the journal on the second evening of class. Students of all levels of experience will complete a successful journal and will make a good start on drawing/sketching of rock shapes and other simple shapes.

Students Need to bring:
• Your usual painting supplies which should include at least 2 water containers, paper towels, a fine mist spray bottle for water.
• Brushes: You may use your regular watercolor brushes. I use Scharff 960 Aqua Flow Super Round, Scharff or a large flat brush, #310 White Nylon round brushes sizes #8 and #4, (I will have Scharff brushes for purchase if you choose.
• Scissors
• A box of pop up tissues is necessary (like an inexpensive brand of Kleenex)
• Hair dryer is helpful, but not necessary
• An old watercolor or other painting on paper to be torn into a cover and binding. (I may have a few to share.) You can also paint a cover from the watercolor paper provided.
• Pencil and permanent black pen or Pentel Gel Fabric Black Pen
• If you have them, these are fun: gel pens, Stabilo pencil, Paint Markers and other mark makers. If you have any favorite mark makers, bring them along. Don’t buy them just for this class; I will have some to share.

$20 Supply fee paid to instructor at beginning of class includes:
• Written instructions and color photos

• At least 10 sheets of 90 lb. cotton watercolor paper to make the journal
• Mijello Mission Gold paints used in this painting
• Foam plate/pallet for watercolor paint
• Use of stencils
• Double stick tape
• Collage materials, eraser and other misc. supplies.
