This class focuses on teaching the basics of using colored pencils to create beautiful 5”x7”artworks. We will discuss how layering colors create unique images through the interaction of shading and highlights. Discussion will center around the blending of colors as they relate to one another on the color wheel and how to study an image to identify hints of various hues and shades. Textures to create a realistic look will be explored to enhance depth in the layering process. Blending techniques aid in smoothing and softening colors as well using tools to give textures and shapes.
Students will learn how to transform the selected image onto pastel paper creating a lovely work of art. We will concentrate on images of a favorite picture of a pet, either one’s own or a pet of a friend or relative. Additional pictures of various animals will be available to choose in the event the student does not have a pet or prefers to a different animal. The goal is to learn how to use colored pencils artistically for creating a lovely one-of-a-kind work of art. Once the artwork is complete it can be matted and framed. There is no experience with colored pencils required and drawing is not a necessity.
