Creative people love to surround themselves and draw inspiration from our stash of treasures and collections. Sometimes, “Our Treasures” are simple recycled materials or found objects. Inspiration for this book comes from any one of my many collections, some may be science & nature-based to collecting the old crusty paint brushes; all of these things can be altered and find their way into artist books.

Using mixed media mark-making techniques, painting, drawing, and stenciling, you will create the layers and develop a color palette and theme for your artist's book on painter’s canvas and paper. Using the finished canvas, you will cover the hardcover book boards to create your book. We will add the signatures with some of the painted papers and create a unique binding to make your artist's book. The book form will be completed in class, and you can continue adding to embellish at your own pace.

Your favorite collage materials, paper & fabric scraps, small envelopes, tags, photos, mag pictures, ephemera, etc.
Pencil and favorite drawing tools: I used Crayola & Caran D'Ache crayons, china markers and POSCA pens, sharpies, etc. (Don't go out and buy the Caran D’Ache crayons unless you think you might need them for another project, they are pricey, you can try mine.
For the book's spine: Old paint brushes, plastic test tubes, sticks from nature, most things can be attached to the binding; the book's spine is 1 ½ inches wide to give you an idea of what could fit there. (I will also bring binding items that you can choose from)
Paper towels or a rag, and a water container.

Optional:
A few beads & charms to hang from the binding
A brayer to flatten down the collaged layers.
