Birds & Blues is an exploration of fabric coloration and stitch to create a personal unique art quilt. Class will begin by learning how to use fabric dye pastels and then colorizing the nine 4×4? bird block prints provided in your kit. Then let the stitch begin! Lisa will teach a stitch technique that borrows from the traditional Japanese styles of boro patches and sashiko stitch and sprinkles in a bit of grandma’s crazy quilting too. Your kit has three 10x10inch hand dyed indigo panels you can add other fabrics of your choice to finish out the other 6 squares. Your finished blocks can be framed individually or stitch together in any combination to create a larger art quilt or strung together to create a set of pennants. Lisa will show you lots of examples and share finishing ideas and techniques too. Your kit includes everything you need to create three finished panels on hand dyed indigo.

Your kit includes all you need to complete 3 blocks
• 9 -hand carved 4×4? bird block images printed in deep blue on white cotton
• 3- 9×9” squares of hand dyed indigo cotton fabric
• 1 – ball of white pearl cotton thread size 8
• 1 – chenille needle size #24
• Set of 15 pentel fabric dye sticks
 

Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

• pins and or glue stick.
• scissors or rotary cutter (pinking shears are nice but not required)
• Light to mid- weight Pellon fusible fabric stabilizer, You will need 3 cut to 10x10in square (I like to stabilize fabric while hand stitching so no embroidery hoop needed – if you prefer to use an embroidery hoop you can skip the Pellon and bring a hoop)
• Optional: disappearing fabric marker such as Pilot FriXion or Fabric Chalk such as Dritz Quilting Chalk Cartridge set is good if you want to mark precise stitch lines – you can also stitch freehand with no marking (I do both)
• Optional: swatches of print or solid fabrics to add patches of color with your birds & indigo fabric supplied
