This will be a day of creative play. You’ll get to experiment with fabric dye pastels on fun bird and word block print fabric supplied in your kit. Then you can finally use all those little scraps of fabric you’ve been saving to create up to eight small fabric collages to string together as flags. We will begin with whole group demo on using fabric pastels to colorize your block print panels followed by stitch tips, and design and composition basics. There will be plenty of “studio time” to get busy with your flags with time to share and answer questions sprinkled in. Each participant will make a string of Wing & A Prayer Flags to grace a special space indoors or out, perfect for a garden or patio space!
Materials Fee $25 paid at beginning of class includes:
• Fabric scraps and bits for the group to share in designing each flag
• 1 – ball of white pearl cotton thread size 8
• 1 – chenille needle size #24
• Set of 15 pentel fabric dye sticks
Supplies Needed to bring for Class:
• 8 or more cut rectangles fabric cut to 5x7 or larger depending on what size flag panel you prefer. My examples are 5x7 inch so anything that size or bigger works great, solids, prints, batiks…. whatever you have in your scraps –
• 3 yards double fold bias tape (1 pack) any color
• Iron and pad or board to iron on
• pins and or glue stick.
• scissors or rotary cutter (pinking shears are nice but not required)
• Optional: I provide a ball of white pearl cotton if you have more pearl or embroidery thread in colors of your choice, feel free to bring that along
NOTE: These little flags can be constructed using sewing machine or hand stitch, or a combo of both. There will be sewing machines available to share – if you prefer to have your own sewing machine feel free to bring - bring an extension cord too.
