Nothing says “truly original” if you do the stitching yourself, add your own hand-made embellishments and create a true work of art never found in commercial venues.
People in Europe and Asia began sewing loose papers together to protect them at least as far back as the 6th century. To further protect the folio/pages, wood covers were often used. Today we use matt board for the protection, but the stitches often remain as they were centuries ago.
In this workshop, using beautiful art papers and board provided, you will learn to make a hard-cover stab-stitched book and a basic soft cover figure-eight book. Want to take your books up to another level? You will also make your own paper bead embellishments.
Techniques included:
Cutting and decorating book-board
Making folded sections, including pockets
Stab-stitch binding
Figure-eight stitching
Accordion folded pages
Rolling paper strips into beads
