I am drawn to small intimate things. They remind me that the little bits and minor events that make up our lives are often the most important. The tiny textile wishes that I create daily are similar to a mediation practice. They help me focus on my intention or wish for the day and allow me to capture the small things that happen in my life.
In this class we will create a series of small collages using textiles, paper, embellishments and stitch. We will challenge ourselves to keep each one unique and allow them to flow from our hearts not our heads. Your collages can be used together in one larger piece or become small intimate art works that stand on their own.
Some of the techniques and products we will explore are:
Listen to Liz's podcast about Stitch Meditations
Read her Stitch Meditation blog post.
Follow her Stitch Meditation Pinterest board.
Supply fee: $10 for silk carrier rods and cocoons, images for transfer techniques, fabric for our meditation bases and use of my supplies for felting, printing, beading etc.
Supplies to bring:
Basic hand stitching kit: needles, thread, thimble, etc
task lighting if you like
Bring scraps of fabrics, painted or special papers, fibers. Odds and ends, charms, beads and found objects. You don't need to bring much of any one thing. I use all the leftover bits from other projects in my meditations...you know...all that stuff that most people would throw away. A gallon ziploc bag full is plenty. I will bring plenty to share!
Embroidery floss and pearl cotton for hand stitching
