These are some of the easiest, simplest yet stunning faces I like to create in my art journal. I want to share with you my process and techniques so that you, too, can feel the joy of creating faces! We'll start with some simple face sketching techniques and learning face proportion. Then, we'll create some simple backgrounds using my favorite supplies (oil pastels, Kwik Stix, Stabilo 3-in-1 pencils) and add some super simple yet stunning portraits over the top using Stabilo pencil. Then, we'll play with levels of transparency and opacity as we add simple shading, color and high lights with oil paint sticks. Each portrait we create will be another "step" in the process so you can see how each one differs and what layers were added, with what techniques, and what the results are (like a visual journey from start to finish!). In the final portrait, we'll add transparent and opaque layers of acrylic paint, collage, and more to give our portraits a luminous, life-like quality!

Materials Fee $20 paid at beginning of class includes:

a collage pack full of unique, vintage, and recycled paper, collage paper, tissue paper, stabilo pencil and use of shared materials: Acrylic paint, spray ink, stencils, stamps, stamp ink, oil pastels, texture plates, brushes, mark-making tools, printmaking tools

Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

*Art Journal (I prefer Canson XL or Strathmore Mixed Media journals. Any journal will do, but it should have mixed media weight paper that can hold multiple layers of wet media)

Optional items: If you have special stamps or stencils, washi tape, collage paper, or collage images, bring them along, but I will have plenty to share!
