Back by popular command. This class sells out FAST.
The inspiration for these encrusted hearts came from two sources: the first being my small embedded heart pendants which in turn were inspired by Mexican folk art hearts that are often embellished with milagros, the small tin pieces traditionally used for healing purposes. Milagro means miracle and they were often attached to sacred objects to give thanks for answered prayers. Milagros are also carried for protection and good luck. Students will learn a variety of techniques working with polymer clay including stamping, painting, using gold leaf and embedding a variety of objects into clay. Students will also learn techniques for covering objects in clay and for altering their wood substrates. The end result is a beautiful, richly embellished “encrusted” heart that can hang on the wall and provide a bit of good fortune too!
Materials fee $10 paid directly to instructor at beginning of class includes:
A small wood substrate: either 4 x 6 inches or 5x5 inches-I prefer the Blick Studio Artists Wood Panels, the deep cradle (1.5”) birch panels as the sides are great to alter.
Rolling pin or even a piece of large (1.5 “) diameter PVC pipe works (about 10-12 inches long)
Paintbrushes to include a fine detail brush and a one-inch brush.
A pencil with an eraser
A small bottle of Weldbond glue (Michaels or Ace Hardware)
Lots of SMALL doo-dads to embed in clay like charms, buttons, glass rhinestones, a crown for the top, pearls, milagros, jewelry parts, ball chain, rhinestone chain, beads, metal findings and small personal items of significance. See pics for ideas. (no acrylic or self-adhesive doodads)
