Embossed Metalic Book

$ 160

Learn a unique way to create special books by embellishing the covers with a variety of metallic handiwork to give a dramatic antique or in-dustrial finish. Create raised metallic patterns with cardboard cut-outs, letters, tacks, mesh, screws, small hardware items and found objects to create a layered patterned surface which is covered by a heavy duty aluminum tape. Learn how to burnish, mask, emboss, distress, outline and etch on the surface to achieve a richly textured cover.
  Acrylic paints accentuate the dramatic details of the built up substrate areas. We’ll experiment! Jangling keys, jingle bells and dan-gling chains turn books into musical objects that rattle and ding. Cele-brate the industrial look. Jewelry box finds and sentimental objects can be attached to create a personal book album. We’ll explore interior page surface decorations and short haiku like sentiments that will bring personal stories to life in a unique memorable album.   Faux metal techniques can also create dramatic artist journal co-vers and can invigorate other art projects.

$15 kit fee payable to instructor at beginning of class includes:
Small to medium books to alter, paints to decorate interior pages, in-dustrial strength aluminum metallic foil, mat board or cardboard sub-strate for depth, foam, a variety of textured mesh and wire.
