Dive into layers, then carve your way back to clarity. In this evening workshop, we’ll explore the dynamic push and pull of mixed media by starting with abundance—marks, colors, textures—and finishing with elegant restraint.
Working on a trio of wooden panels, you’ll build up rich, expressive backgrounds using a variety of mixed media techniques: think collage, scribbles, stencils, stamps, paint, and whatever else wants to make its way into the mix. Once your surfaces are full of texture and energy, you’ll learn how to reduce—masking a focal shape or silhouette and painting out the rest to reveal a strong, bold composition from the chaos.
This process is not only visually satisfying—it’s a powerful creative metaphor: sometimes, clarity emerges only after the messy middle.
You’ll leave with three striking, one-of-a-kind panels that reflect your personal story and style, plus a technique you’ll want to return to again and again.
