A great number of artists believe that watercolor is the hardest of the painting mediums.  They are wrong. There are tips, tricks and even rules that can ensure a better understanding of the tools of watercolor including paper, brushes, watercolor and even just water.  In this workshop we will paint several smaller paintings focusing on specific watercolor techniques, including creating texture, wet-into-wet and the use of masking fluid.  You will learn a lot and still have plenty of fun.  Students of all levels of experience will create successful watercolor paintings and still enjoy this class.

Materials Fee $25 paid at beginning of class includes:

•    Written instructions and color photos of sample paintings•    Quality watercolor paper to create up to 6 paintings approx. 4” x 6”
•    A sampling of Mijello Mission Gold artist quality watercolor paints used in these paintings
•    Foam plate/pallet
•    Moo eraser and kneaded eraser
•    Masking Fluid, wax paper and other misc. supplies.

Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

  • 2 water containers, paper towels (or an old towel), a fine mist spray bottle for water.
Brushes:  You may use your regular watercolor brushes. I use Scharff , #310 White Nylon round brushes sizes #8 and #4 , a script liner and small wash brush (I will have Scharff brushes for purchase if you choose.  White nylon brushes are typically easier for beginner painters.  Your acrylic brushes will also work with watercolor. If in doubt, come to class and then you can shop at our store.
    Scissors
A box of pop-up tissues is helpful
Pencil, ruler2 small “boards” approx. 8” x 10” or larger to support your painting.  My favorite support is corrugated plastic sign board. If you have one support about 12” x 18” that will be fine.   There is no reason to cut it up.  This will allow us to work on more than one painting at a time.
Smaller metal pallet knife if you have one
