This workshop will explore the chemistry of iron and tannin as a color and mordant that can be used for dye, ink, and mark making. Rio will create dye baths of local harvested tannin based plants and ferrous sulfate. We will also play with rusty bits to make prints. These basic ingredients will create all kinds of magic on cotton, silk, and paper samples. Through this process participants will learn and experiment with pattern and making marks. Each will work on a final project to choose between a silk scarf or cotton tote bag.
