This is a blending of cultural needlework techniques – little bit of Sashiko, and a little bit of Boro. In this class, students will start by stitching some small Japanese Komon motifs of their choice with Sashiko from a design sheet provided, and then collage them as patches with other fabrics into a hand stitched Boro sampler. The students will choose the fabrics they wish to use from a selection of unusual and exotic textiles in the instructor’s collection and then choose their preference of Sashiko thread to carry out the stitching. Skill level: Confident beginners and up.
