Take a blank journal and add your personal touch with fabric collage, inkjet photo transfers and more. By employing hand and machine stitching, you’ll create a one-of a-kind cloth cover to enhance your journaling experience. Once you’ve made one of these cloth covers, you’ll want all of your journals to be wearing snazzy jackets. In this class you will also learn the following: – embroidery stitches (running stitch, satin stitch, back stitch and French knots)– fabric collage design and practice– how to inkjet print images (personal photos, magazine pix, words & more) directly onto fabric (and make them water resistant)– machine sewing techniques and tricks– journal jacket construction, to fit any size soft or hard-cover journal
Materials Fee $20 paid at beginning of class includes:
Moleskein Cahier© soft cover 5 x 7 blank journals (blank, gridded or ruled)
– fabric scraps for collage– larger printed fabric pieces
– embroidery floss, sewing machine threads, needles, pins and fabric glues
– pre-treated Kona Cotton© for inkjet printing images
– Canon Pixma© inkjet printer
– cotton fusible interfacing– cutting mats
– wool/rayon felt for jacket base– iron(s), ironing board, various cutting tools (scissors, rotary cutter, pinking shears)
– computer– images / designs for printing
– detailed illustrated handouts
– chocolate
Supplies Needed to bring for Class:
– favorite photos (can be on phone or hard copy) of family, friends, pets, whatever you want on your journal jacket
– favorite magazine pix or words – small amount of favorite fabrics to use for collage
– fabric scissors, cutting mat, sewing notions that you like using
– sewing machine (if you’re local and want to bring your machine)
