With the guidance of the instructor students will take "scraps" of items to create beautifully adorned coffee-dyed deli bags. One of the bags will include a notebook insert. These bags can be used in a variety of gift-giving ways or framed. Lynn will walk you through the process of making the notebook insert including demonstration of a three-hole pamphlet stitch. This course focuses on recycling supplies: fabric, lace, tulle, yarn, string, buttons, photos, appliqués, paper, and rhinestones creating a beautiful, decorated bag. Although bags used in the class will be pre-coffee dyed for purposes of time and drying, the instructor will walk the group through the process and offer a demonstration of coffee-dying deli bags resulting in different effects. The art of collage onto the deli bags will be explored. The use of grids to create focal points on the bags will be discussed. The concept of layering to create depth will be demonstrated. Before the students get started, the instructor will hold a demonstration including fully decorating a bag from beginning to end. This education foundation will then be used by the students to decorate their own deli bags using items using the instructor-provided kits. Each student will be provided two kits resulting in two completely decorated bags, one including a notebook insert to match. The instructor will bring numerous completed deli bags including themed bags (Birthday, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Wedding, etcetera) for discussion and inspiration. Examples of ways completed decorated deli bags could be used by students will be explored in a group discussion. The combinations are endless and you will never look at your craft scraps the same way again!
