When most people think of a bolo, they immediately see cowboys with a big chunk of a piece pushed all the way up to their throat! Well, let’s change that concept and introduce the bolo as a unique, beautiful ladies accessory!
Students will learn how to assemble these mixed metals freeform piece (we are keeping the design simple and clean) that will be worn lower and add a touch of class to any outfit. Students will learn a simple attachment for the cord. What makes this piece extra special are the custom-built ends for the cord, no commercial attachments for this beauty!
Basic torch soldering, sawing and filing skills suggested.
Materials Fee $(to be determined) paid at beginning of class includes:
copper,
brass
a small piece of silver (if students wish to work with mostly silver, they may bring their own)
silver tube and cord.
Also included are all appropriate disposable materials needed for class. Also, extra saw blades and extra butane
Supplies Needed to bring for Class:
jewelry pliers (round, flat, chain, flush cutters).
6” to 8” file assortment, needle files, jewelers saw with 2/0 to 3/0 cutting blades.
A metal cookie sheet for hot work protection,
a butane torch that will reach ±2500°F.(suggest: Amazon Butane Torch Kitchen Lighter, Culinary Torch Head and Iwatani BU-6 Cassette Feu Butane Fuel Canister for Butane
Stove & Torch Refills)
Soldering surface: i.e, solderite board or hard charcoal block.
Bench pin to clamp onto table
Steel bench block
Tweezers & cross-lock insulated tweezers,
Clamp on vise (4” to 5” is best)
ball peen hammer & leather or plastic mallet
Suggested additional; VISUAL AIDS, MITER CUTTING VISE (Rio Grande #112700) Third Hand tool.
